July 21, 2011 at 1:55 am (Skin Care) (, )

Moroccan Rhassoul Clay is a beauty remedy originating from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, and has long been used by some of the finest beauty spas from around the world. Known for its purifying and detoxifying properties, it is extremely effective with fighting acne, reducing dry flaky skin and improving skin tone, texture and elasticity.

John Masters Organics’ Moroccan Clay Purifying Mask is an absolute skin savior for those struggling to control their oily complexion. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply a thin layer of the clay mask to your face. It will normally take 3 – 5 minutes to dry. When you feel the tightening and pulling sensation to your skin, it is the mask working its magic. Allow 20 – 30 minutes for the mask to suck out the impurities from your pores. Other key ingredients in the mix includes, balsam coaidba, oat beta glucan, lavender, sunflower and aspen bark which all work in unison to stimulate collagen production and soothe the skin with its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Wash off with water and feel revitalised. Run your hands over your face to feel a smooth hydrated sensation.

If you are a bit tight with your budget, try making your very own rhassoul clay mask. Use the clay as a base, then add the herbs, fragrances and essential oils of your choice. For those combating acne, ingredients such as peppermint leaves, lavender, comfrey root, elm bark, neem powder, aloe vera, lemon, sandlewood are great additions to the mix. Experiment with different mixtures and recipes to effectively combat any skin issues you may be facing.

I do highly recommend those which are suffering from acne to get your hands on some Moroccan Rhassoul clay and start slapping it on your skin. Before you know it, blackheads disappear and whiteheads are a thing of the past.

Turmeric: The Ancient Wonder Ingredient

July 16, 2011 at 3:29 am (Skin Care) (, )

So there’s this ‘new’ ingredient that’s popping up in the US in health supplements, skincare, and exotic dishes that’s raved about as uber healthy with anti-cancer properties: Turmeric. We often nod “oh, yes, that plant.” But what is it, and why is it so awesome? Oh, let me count the ways. For one, it’s one of Indonesia’s most revered spices/ingredients used in its herbal medicinal tradition and beauty rituals for centuries, but that’s not all. Hopefully this brief overview will leave you the most interesting person at your next dinner party when you can quip up on the wonders of this spice – and leave people wanting to try it out!

What is it? Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is a 5000 year old herb in the ginger family, and is known to grow wild in Southern Asia including India (oldest origin), Indonesia, Indochina, nearby Asian countries, and even in Hawaii. It is less fibrous than ginger, and has a nutty, slightly funky herbal/gingery smell to it and a nice, peppery and warm flavor.

What is it used for? Many things. Its roots are used in cooking as a spice, medicine, and even dye to color fabric/food. Known for its bright yellow color that can stain, turmeric has been used as a food colorant and dye for cloth historically as a less expensive alternative to saffron. Indonesian and Indian cuisine frequent this ingredient, especially in curries, because it is not only yummy but healthy! In Indonesia, we use Turmeric in hundreds of healthy concoctions from a princess spa ritual to brighten skin to drunken medicines to help cleanse blood and liver. In Bali, a traditional healer mixed turmeric with sandalwood and water to create a paste he massaged in my sprained ankle to help reduce swelling and induce rapid healing! (For those of you who saw Eat, Pray, Love, yes – those healers do exist, I can personally attest to it!) Turmeric is also widely used in Indian Ayurvedic systems, most widely used to purify blood.

What’s the magic ingredient? Curcumin is the power ingredient in Turmeric that has many of the anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and blood purifying properties. Though studies conducted are still in the early stage, curcumin has shown positive effect on preventing cancer through its ability to suppress the proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells and to inhibit harmful molecules and enzymes. Topically, like in our Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask, the curcumin in our turmeric complex brightens skin and naturally fights discoloration and age spots naturally. It gives your skin a natural glow – just try it! 15 minutes and you’ll notice a difference.

What does it do, in a nutshell? Overall, turmeric is an amazing antioxidant, thanks to an ingredient in it – curcurmin. Turmeric can detoxify the liver, reduce cholesterol, brighten skin complexion (see our Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask), is naturally antiseptic and antibacterial, and does a whole lot more. So take your dose or turmeric – in capsules like a health supplement, fresh, or in a spice powder, in Jamu (Indonesian tonics), or in our JUARA Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask. Enjoy!

Tips on How to Tighten Sagging, Wrinkled Skin

July 2, 2011 at 3:00 am (Uncategorized) ()

To tighten sagging skin, you need a cream or lotion containing the most effective ingredients.  This is an issue that often accompanies the aging process.  So, most of the ingredients are found in anti-aging creams.  Here’s a look at some of the most effective ones.

KeratinKeratin is a protein found in the skin’s outer layers.  If properly formulated, it can be picked up and used by the skin’s cells, according to researchers, when it is applied topically. As it enters the skin’s cells, it pulls moisture along with it.  That is one of the functions of keratin; to absorb moisture and pull it into the cell.

Studies have shown that the special keratin formulations work to stimulate the production of new cells and new fibers.  As we age, the production of new cells and fibers slows down.  Fewer cells mean that the skin’s layers are thinner.  Fewer fibers mean that it is more likely to sag.

On top of that, you have decreased moisture content, which is a common problem as you get older.  The new keratin formulas can address all of those issues.  After about three weeks of use, a 40% improvement in firmness and elasticity has been seen.

Not only does it tighten sagging skin, it also increases the skin’s ability to retain moisture.  You can say “bye-bye” to dryness issues.

RIGINRIGIN is one of the new peptide formulations.  Peptides are being used for a variety of purposes.  They are something like protein fragments, in that they include amino acids, but only short chains of them.  Proteins contain longer chains of amino acids.

RIGIN seems to be particularly beneficial for people that need to tighten sagging skin on their necks.  The improvement is similar to that seen with keratin, but only on the neckline.  No one appears to know why that is the case.

RIGIN can be found in anti-aging facial masks.  Manufacturers typically recommend that you use the mask every two weeks in order to see continued improvement.

I found one mask that contains RIGIN and keratin.  I’m not sure what the combination of the two ingredients can do for you.  But I would definitely say it is worth a try.

Personally, I do not have an issue with lost firmness.  But, I have been using one of the best anti-aging creams on a daily basis for years.
