Overview

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition cause by the pores becoming impacted with sebum, oils, and bacteria. While there are many over-the-counter acne treatment products that can clear acne quickly, most contain strong chemical ingredients that can cause irritation and inflammation on the skin. Luckily, there are a few natural and effective skin treatments that can clear acne breakouts quickly, without causing unnecessary skin damage in the process.

Step 1

Spread 1 tbsp. of olive oil onto your skin, and massage it in deeply with your fingers for two to three minutes. Fill a bowl with nearly boiling water, and lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl. Drape a towel over your head, which will cause the steam to envelop your face. After five minutes, wipe off the oil with a wet washcloth. Repeat once a day.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of raw oats, 1 cup of boiling water and two drops of tea tree oil. Mix well with a spoon. Once the mixture cools completely, spread it onto your skin. Allow the mask to remain on your face for at least five minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. Repeat once a day.

Step 3

Shake a bottle of calamine lotion to mix the ingredients well. Squirt calamine lotion onto a fresh cotton swab. Dab the calamine lotion directly onto the active acne pustules, and allow it to dry completely. Leave the lotion on overnight, and rinse it off in the morning. Repeat once a day.

Tips and Warnings

Olive oil combines easily to sebum, bacteria, and other impurities in the skin, and will enable impurities to be flushed out of the pores more readily than soap. Olive oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog the pores. The Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suggests that a concentration of 5 percent tea tree oil is just as effective in eliminating acne breakouts as benzoyl peroxide cream, but does not cause side effects, such as redness, peeling or burning. Calamine lotion is traditionally used to treat chicken pox or poison ivy rashes, but is also helpful in drying up acne and in relieving redness and irritation on acne-prone skin.
